If you are considering a Loft conversion or extension, time could be running out if you want to save money by doing it under ‘permitted development’ rules.
May 31st 2019 is the deadline to complete all loft conversions and extensions under the current generous ‘permitted development’ rules. The Government is scheduled to change back to the original rules after this date. This means your planned loft conversion or extension may fall outside ‘permitted development’ rules. Therefore, you would have to apply for full ‘planning permission’
An example of this; Under current permitted development, a detached house can be extended up to 8m at the rear (provided there is sufficient garden). After 31st May 2019 this could revert back to 6m.
It is worth noting that your loft conversion or extension needs to be finished and signed off by the building inspector before 31st May 2019.
So what does this mean for you in terms of moving forward with your project idea? Firstly, builders are getting booked up with works up to 6 months in advance. therefore there is not much time left to organise your loft conversion or extension.
Things to do;
Get in touch with a local architect or building engineer to get plans drawn up for your project
Get quotes in from builders and confirm their availability
Sign contracts with builders which includes in the schedule, the quality of the finish you require.
Take action Now! you don’t want to be under pressure to complete the project when there are just days left before May 31st 2019 is upon you. That’s way too stressful.
